Jaw Manipulation for TMJ Relief | Chiropractor for TMJ in Fishers, IN
One of the most common conditions that we see in our clinic is TMJ, which is the temporal mandibular joint or the jaw joint.
The Two Muscles Commonly Linked With TMJ
So what happens is, if I may turn your head this way please, the TMJ is a joint in the jaw right here. And what happens is that patients think that it’s coming from the bite, and the dentist oftentimes will say that they need a mouth guard. It’s usually coming from the joint itself and the muscles around that joint. So there’s two muscles, there’s a pterygoid or an egg-shaped muscle along the temple, and there’s a masseter muscle along the jaw. If you find where the joint is not moving correctly, that is called the subluxation. And if you correctly adjust that TMJ joint while doing therapy at home on the pterygoid and masseter, you now have a solution for the TMJ and it’s not going to return.
